“Star Wars Rogue One” came out just before Christmas, and it was awesome!!
Like “Doctor Strange” I wasn’t real amped up for this movie. I mean, my mom is asking me when we should see it and I’m like “uhhh, Saturday.” Then Saturday rolls around and I kept forgetting we were seeing it. Like my mother, I went into the movies with no expectations. I heard a lot of great things about the movie before hand so I knew that it wasn’t terrible. After seeing the movie with my OWN eyes and giving time to think on it. I think it’s safe to say this is the second best “Star Wars” movie in the franchise.
The best movie in the franchise is “Empire Strikes Back”. Duh. (Photo credit: The Old Man Club)
There were a lot of great things about this movie. The characters were REALLY well done. For being a movie about a group of rebels taking part in a somewhat small point in the Star Wars timeline, you really grow attached to these characters!
You care about them to the point that when they start getting picked off towards the end, you’re like “No!! Not *insert name here*!” Two of my favorite characters were K-2SO and Chirrut. (Photo credit: Polygon) (Photo credit: www.planete-starwars.com)
K-2SO was possibly the breakout character in the movie. He was so enjoyable! He is possibly my number one favorite droid!
If you’re wondering. My list goes; K-2SO, BB-8, R2-D2, C-3PO, and Chopper.
K-2SO is a very unique droid. Just his sarcastic comments were awesome! If I was to identify with any characters, It would K-2SO because I tend to throw around some very brutal sarcasm (ask my family). Along with being sarcastic, K-2SO was a bad ass! I mean that scene where K-2SO caught a thermal detonator mid air and tosses it into a group of Stormtroopers was awesome!! (Photo credit: Gizmodo Australia)
Freaking love that droid!
Chirrut was my second character because of one thing…he was the Daredevil of “Star Wars“! Why is the Daredevil equivalent? It’s simple actually, he’s blind and he can KICK ASS.

Donnie Yen rocked this performance! Just ROCKED IT!! Chirrut was just a very bad ass character! It was a shame we only saw that one fight scene between him and those Stormtroopers. I will pay GOOD money to see more Chirrut fight scenes. They were VERY Well done. Chirrut did a good job with filling in for the Jedi role. This movie doesn’t have any Jedi which sucks because we are use to seeing them in the movies, but I feel like Chirrut was a good fill in.
The overall pacing of the movie was alright. The beginning had a slow start but later on in the film it kicks into high gear! I can kind of see why it had a slow build up because they were trying to set up the GOOD stuff.
In the movie we were introduced to Krennic, the man who oversaw the construction of the Death Star and WAS going to run it until Grand Moff Tarkin took over and Krennic was (SPOILERS) killed on Scarif when the Death Star blew it up. I found Krennic very cool and menacing! It was a great having a Imperial officer be the villain of the movie and not another sith. (Photo credit: StarWars.com)
Speaking of Krennic, the Death Troopers were sweet! I was very excited to see these guys in the movie. They are (in a way) the space equivalent to the Secret Service. I mean they’re cool and send chills up your spine! I was thrown off with how they talked, but I read somewhere that they have their own frequency or something. (Photo credit: StarWars.com)
The action in the movie was amazing. Awhile back they said the action in this movie was going to be similar to old World War Two movies and this move lived up to that similarity. The cinematography really caught that on the ground, in the fight feel. They were gritty and really in your face! The battle on Scarif reminded me of the D-Day beach landings a little bit. Next to all the new characters we’re given, we got to see some old faces! We got to see C-3PO, R2-D2, and Princess Leia! I know I left out Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin, and Bail Organa, but we/I already knew they were making appearances. Out of all the old characters we saw in this movie, I feel like Tarkin was used a bit too much. If anything, he should have had one scene and that’s it! No more. I know they had to explain why Tarkin was in charge of the Death Star and not Krennic, but they could have simply slipped in something about Tarkin taking over the Death Star at the end of the movie or something.
Speaking of the end of the movie. Oh my…that ending was INCREDIBLE!! I heard the ending was amazing but I didn’t expect to see Darth Vader tearing rebel soldiers a new one!

The scene was very well done! The scene with the rebels frantically trying to escape with the Death Star plans while Vader is running around cutting soldiers down was VERY intense! Also, why haven’t we seen this Vader before?! He’s awesome!
I just want to talk about one more thing. The comedy in the movie. I loved the comedic moments in this film because they didn’t feel forced. One of my griped about “The Force Awakens” (besides it CLOSELY copying “A New Hope“) was that the comedic moments in the film were forced.
Overall, REALLY good movie! I highly recommend it!
