The much anticipated sequel to the highly successful Guardians of the Galaxy was released this weekend and just like the movie before it, it did not fail to be amazing! (The Young Folks)
Like Doctor Strange, I kinda kept forgetting that GOTG Vol 2 was coming out. I don’t know why the comic book films this year have been low on my expectation lists, but they just are.
But unlike Dr. Strange, I was hyped to see GOTG Vol 2! I was excited all day to see it! I was like…(Photo credit: Tumblr)
Now, is this movie better than the first one? For me, it’s hard to tell. I think they are tied in how good they are.
GOTG Vol 2 had the same things that made GOTG Vol 1 great! The film had great music, great action scenes, and terrific jokes. Probably the one thing that this film had more of than Vol 1 was feels. I mean this movie was very emotional. This movie just pulled out your heart strings and really made you feel for some of the characters.
We were introduced to a lot of characters from the Galaxy portion of Marvel. This movie brought in characters like Martinex, Starhawk, Mantis, and Taserface.
They were going to bring in Simon Williams/Wonder Man (played by the AWESOME Nathan Fillion), but he was sadly cut from the film…which sucks because I was looking forward to seeing Nathan Fillion in the MCU.

Let us stay on the topic of Starhawk for a second. I was so amped when I found out that Sylvester Stallone was cast as Starhawk because I like the idea of Stallone being in the MCU. Now, I know that out there in the MCU Galaxy…there is a character played by Sylvester Stallone flying around being bad ass.
I just LOVED that end credits scene with him and the other characters. I really hope we see him in either a Netflix series or in Guardians Vol 3 (which is happening)
The comedy in this film was possibly the highlight of the movie. There were a lot of good one liners that had everyone in the theater laughing their butts off.
I am now going to call Racoons, Trash Pandas.
Also, the characters were funny to watch. Drax was funny as always, with his funny dry humor. Mantis was also funny! She was so cringe worthy that she was funny to watch! (Photo credit: CraveOnline)
Cue the Mantis and Drax fan fictions!
As I stated in the beginning, this move has some mad feels. I mean, this was more emotional than Vol 1. The ending man…I mean…Why did Yondu have to bite it?! He’s my favorite character out of all the characters and I am sad to see Yondu go.
Now…I do have two bones to pick with his movie. They aren’t big bones…but I just kinda look at these things and I’m like “Why?”.
First off, Ego the lousy dad/living planet. When I first heard that Kurt Russell will be playing Peter’s dad, I was excited to see him play J’son. I was confused that they made Ego the living planet, A VILLAIN, Peter’s dad. I was like “Ok…there’s probably a reasonable explanation for this because…(in the great words of Comic Drake) comics.” When it was revealed he was the one who killed Peter’s mother, I was like “Ok…maybe he’ll change his ways…” and boy, was I wrong. Ego is a good villain to have used for the film, but I wish Marvel just stuck with J’son being Starlord’s dad and not made Ego his dad, who’s evil.

My second bone to pick were the villains. Ego was a good villain but I feel like the Ravagers and Ayesha were unneeded. They were pointless in my opinion. Yeah, the Ravagers filled the role of getting Yondu to join the Guardians but besides that, they were kinda meaningless. Ayesha and her race did next to nothing in this film, they were more useless than the Ravagers. The purpose they served was getting the Ravagers to hunt down the Guardians. (Photo credit: Nerdist)
Besides those two things I didn’t really enjoy about the film, it is still a good movie and meets up with the expectations with the first one. It captures what the first film has and I highly look forward to seeing GOTG Vol 3. I also look forward to seeing the Guardians team up with the Avengers in Infinity War.
