Want to know how Stephen Strange went from successful surgeon to sorcerer supreme?(Photo credit: Too Busy Thinking About My Comics)
Stephen Strange is the son of Eugene and Beverly Strange. He grew up in Nebraska, and he is the oldest of three kids — he has a sister, Donna and a little brother named Vincent. When he was eleven, Stephen helped his sister when she became injured. That experience made him want to pursue a medical career. After he got out of high school, Stephen went into pre-med at a college in New York.
On his nineteenth birthday, Stephen returned home to Nebraska. He and his sister went for a swim, but during the swim Donna drowned. Stephen searched desperately for her and eventually found her. His failure to save his sister left him with a large sense of personal disappointment that would feed his medical idealism.
Stephen had a quick rise to being a successful surgeon. However, when he lost his mom, he started to grow distant from his work. He became more interested in the wealth and notoriety associated with being a success. His arrogance grew right along with his wealth.
He saved the life of injured United Nations translator named Madeleine. Romance soon followed and a proposal. She ended up leaving him because he was too materialistic.
Two years after his mother’s death, Stephen’s father, Eugene, fell ill. Not willing to witness another family death, Stephen refused to visit his father. During an argument with his brother, Victor, Stephen was berated for his apparent lack of grief. When Victor rushed out Stephen’s home following their argument, he ran into the path of an oncoming car. Victor was on the edge of death without hope of surviving. Since Stephen blamed himself for Victor’s accident, he put Victor’s body in cold storage until a breakthrough can be found.
Strange continued to live life on the edge. He has a car wreck and his injuries are severe. The nerves in his hands are so badly damaged that it results in the end of his surgical career. (Photo credit: The Sanctum)
He went through his money looking for a cure. Desperate to continue his search for cure, he began performing shady medical procedures that barely paid his tab at a bar.
After hearing rumors of the mystical Ancient One, a desperate Strange pawned his last possessions (his expensive watches) for a ticket to the East. When he found the Ancient One’s Tibetan palace, the Ancient One would refuse to help Stephen. He learned that the Ancient One was Earth’s magical defender. He also learned that the Ancient One’s pupil, Karl Mordo, was going to attempt an attack. For the sake of the Ancient One and the world, Stephen vowed to learn magic so he can stop Mordo. He offered to be a disciple to the Ancient One; the Ancient One would accept his offer.

The Ancient One spent years instructing Strange in the art of sorcery. A few years after Strange’s arrival, Mordo left to seek greater power, and would often clash with Strange in the future. (Photo credit: Reviewing Comics)
Strange befriended many sorcerers, (to0 name a few) like Count Carezzi, Omar Karindu, Rama Kaliph, Turhan Barim, Wai Chee Yee and Sen-Yu. He would be joined by Wong, the descendant of a line of servants for the Ancient One. Wong would become Strange’s friend and servant. (Photo credit: Film)

Nightmare would prey on dreams and would become one of Dr. Strange’s biggest enemies.
I bet you’re wondering how Strange fits in with the other Avengers. At first, Strange is a bit stand-offish from New York’s super heroes. Loki tricks Stephen into attacking Thor, but things would work out and Strange and Thor work together to stop Loki.

A clash against Baron Mordo would lead Strange to meet Spider-Man, who helps him save people from a mystic dimension. Strange and Spider-Man become friends.
Who wants to see Cumberbatch and Holland team up in the MCU? I want to see that happen!
Strange does come face-to-face with one of the Ancient One’s oldest enemies – Dormammu. Dormammu plotted to invade the Earth and he challenged Strange to duel in the Dark Dimension. While there in the Dark Dimension, Strange would be approached by Clea, daughter of Dormammu’s sister Umar.(Photo credit: Comicbook.com)
Clea sought to prevent the duel, fearful that her home dimension would be devastated by creatures known as the Mindless Ones if Dormammu fell. Strange would not listen and proceed with his duel with Dormammu. Although Strange was out matched, their duel drained Dormammu’s energy enough to weaken the barrier which contained the Mindless Ones. Strange, not wanting to endanger the Dark Dimension’s inhabitants, lent Dormammu power to restore the barrier. Dormammu would spare Strange along with Earth and Clea (who Stephen found attractive.) Dormammu would swear vengeance and became one of Strange’s most relentless enemies.
Following his encounter with Dormammu, Strange joined several super heroes in battling the mutant Sundown along with becoming a special consultant to prominent super-teams like the Fantastic Four, the X-Men along with the Avengers.
After attending the wedding of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman, Strange would be reunited with Clea. Strange and Clea fell in love and she came to live with him in New York.
Following an extra-dimensional ordeal, he was forced to change his appearance in order to cross to Earth. Upon his return, Strange carelessly revealed his real name to a crowd while fighting Nightmare. The universal embodiment Eternity altered all documents and memories on Earth, changing the name of “Stephen Strange” to “Stephen Sanders” to allowing Strange to live a private life once again.
After fighting the Undying Ones, Strange would leave his mystic duties and become a medical consultant.
Later on, Strange would be attacked by Baron Mordo. This causes him to take up his magical powers again.
Dr. Strange would form the Defenders which includes – Hulk, Namor, Silver Surfer, NightHawk, Hellcat, and Valkyrie.

A little while after Dr. Strange and the other Defenders would part ways. (He would form the secret Defenders later on).
Dr. Strange would aid Clea in returning to the Dark Dimension. Together they lead a rebellion against Umar, the dimensions new ruler. Sadly, the couple would end up parting ways.
Dr. Strange would later face his resurrected brother Victor, who was a new breed of vampire (Victor would become the vigilante, Khiron, and would kill himself….) (Photo credit: Zona Negativa)
While fighting, Strange would reunite with Defenders members Namor, Hulk, and Silver Surfer.
Strange would have more crazy adventures such as returning to the Dark Dimension and merging with Clea’s rebellion Nobel and becoming Paradox. He would take up violent action and shut down operations led by an enemy of his named Steven. He would also take part in the War of the Seven Spheres.
Strange would later distant himself from all his super hero allies and become arrogant once again.
He also becomes a member of the Illuminati. (Photo credit: Moviepilot)
Sorry for this one being very brief, Dr Strange is a very history/lore rich character. If this was a YouTube video, it would be a LONG one.
